Ontario Utility Lines
For Day 2, I mapped Ontario's electrical transmission infrastructure using the Utility Line dataset from Ontario GeoHub. Since moving to Ontario, I've been exploring local open datasets. The map shows hydro lines filtered from the broader utility dataset - and yes, electricity is called "hydro" here, which still catches me off guard.

The dataset includes various types of utility infrastructure with metadata about location accuracy, operating status, and classification. The data is provided by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry through the Ontario GeoHub platform.
Visualization
Built with react-map-gl and MapLibre GL JS using the Positron basemap style. The utility lines are styled in Toronto Maple Leafs blue (#003e7e) with line width that scales dynamically based on zoom level.
