Keynotes, webinars, and podcast appearances on indoor mapping, AI-powered automation, and the future of spatial analytics

I am a self-confessed “map geek” and technologist who brings a unique “pi-shaped” skill set to every discussion, combining deep technical engineering expertise with a robust background in business, marketing, and communications. This dual perspective allows me to act as a “technical counterpart” who prioritises finding the right solution for the customer over simply making a sale.

Whether delivering a keynote or joining a technical deep-dive, I provide high-energy insights into the “final frontier” of indoor mapping, AI-powered automation, and the future of spatial analytics. I am also known for performing high-stakes live demos, successfully showcasing everything from AI-driven map creation to real-time SDK implementations on air. Above all, I lead with empathy and a passion for teaching, helping everyone from beginners to enterprise partners navigate complex technological landscapes.

Mastering the Code Review: A Mentorship Session

Teach Jenn Code Review

In this session, I mentored Jenn Junod through a live code review, exploring the concept that software reviews are akin to book editing—a vital process for catching human errors and improving quality. I guided Jenn through refining a site built with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, focusing on technical empathy and the "aha moments" that occur when complex concepts click for a learner. We discussed the value of asynchronous work, the role of linters in maintaining code governance, and why beginners benefit most from fast feedback loops. I also shared my philosophy that in developer relations, one must embrace the fact that you will always be learning and will never know everything.

Mapping the Final Frontier: NACIS 2024 Keynote

Mapping the Final Frontier from the Inside Out

At the NACIS conference, I presented on why the urban indoor environment remains the world's most unmapped and "wild" space. I detailed the mission to make the indoors visible, moving beyond wayfinding to include data visualisations, safety mapping, and asset tracking in venues like airports and stadiums. The highlight was a live demonstration where I transformed a "napkin drawing" of a hotel floor plan into a navigable 3D map in minutes using AI-powered vectorisation. I also showcased how the LiDAR sensors in modern mobile devices can now be used to scan and digitise event spaces rapidly.

Max Out Mappedin: Turning Spatial Insights into Revenue

How smart venues can turn insights into revenue

In this episode, I joined Michael to discuss how venues can shift from basic wayfinding to using spatial analytics for business decisions. We explored how search data for items like "coffee" or trending "Baby Shark" experiences can validate leasing strategies and marketing "bets". I also shared a "hot take" on how generative AI is revolutionising rapid prototyping, allowing even non-developers to query complex data sets using natural language and see those insights visualised instantly on a map. We concluded by discussing how digital maps provide actionable feedback that traditional paper maps simply cannot offer.

From Map to App: Building with the Mappedin SDK

Build Anything with Mappedin SDK

This technical webinar focused on the power of the Mappedin SDK, which integrates MapLibre and Deck.gl for industry-leading data visualisation. I led a live demo showing how to build an application from scratch in ten minutes—from uploading a PDF and using an "AI mapping wand" to detect walls and doors, to styling meeting rooms based on real-time booking data. We also introduced major new features, including multi-building campus maps, marker clustering for dense data, and a specialised offline mode for environments like cruise ships. The session showcased how the SDK can power everything from airport luggage handling to firefighter safety.

The DevRel Show: Bridging the Gap Between Tech and Business

devrelshow episode 29

In this interview with Frédéric Harper, I discussed my journey from a social media specialist to VP of Enterprise Integrations, highlighting my return to university at age 29 to study computer science. I shared my philosophy on the "managed chaos" of Developer Relations, where one must remain agile to support evolving customer needs. The conversation covered the critical need for digitised indoor data—since indoor spaces change 30% more often than outdoor roads—and how my dual background ensures both technical and business success for partners. I also demonstrated how the SDK can be used for advanced IoT data visualisations, such as tracking Wi-Fi signal strength and temperature sensors across a venue.
